August 2019

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Welcome to Love Elementary School!

If we haven’t already met, we are Love’s Kindergarten Team. Our names are Jo Corpuz, Kimberley Hare, Nicole Strom, and Meredith Wold. We will be your child’s Kindergarten Teachers. We are very excited about this school year and we are looking forward to a year full of learning and many new experiences for us all.

Here are some important things you will need to know for the beginning of school:

Classroom Assignments

Please be aware that for the first 20 days of school, changes may be necessary as to your child’s classroom placement in order to comply with state and district guidelines.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Kindergarten Schedule

Monday, 8/19, to Friday, 9/6 school begins at 8:20 and ends at 11:40.

We will meet your child in the Kindergarten yard.

Starting Monday, 9/9 school begins at 8:20 and ends at 12:40 or 1:40. Our small group, staggered schedule begins this day as well.

Here is an example of our small group staggered schedule.

GROUP A (12-13 children) will be dismissed at 1:40 on Monday and Tuesday and dismissed at 12:40 on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

GROUP B (12 children) will be dismissed at 12:40 on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and dismissed at 1:40 on Thursday and Friday.

Please realize that once the groups are made it is extremely difficult to change them.

Kindergarten Assessment

Beginning on Tuesday, 8/20 we will be assessing your child’s knowledge of pre-readiness skills such as: color & shape recognition, personal information such as: name, age, birth date, address, & phone number, fine motor skills such as: writing their name, number skills such as: counting and recognizing numbers to 20, shape recognition and reading readiness skills such as: reciting and recognizing the alphabet, matching letter and sounds, matching & recognizing upper & lower case letters and rhyming.

Each afternoon for 4 days we will have 1 class stay until 1:00.

During this time they will eat lunch, socialize with other Kindergartners and work with the teachers. Please have your child bring a lunch on the day they stay.

We will send out your child’s group schedule on Tuesday, August 27th.

This baseline assessment allows us to have a knowledge of where every student is at the beginning of the year and ensures that the classes are as balanced as they can be. We also use the assessments to show growth from the beginning of the year to the end.

Here is the assessment schedule:

8/21  Tuesday Ms. Strom Room 1
8/22  Wednesday Ms. Hare Room 2
8/23  Thursday Mrs. Wold Room 3
8/24  Friday Ms. Corpuz Room 13
